Emerging from a preliminary group called the No Foreign War Campaign Steering Committee, the No Foreign War Committee was a short-lived (December 1940-April 1941) organization which was the East Coast counterpart of the America First Committee. Verne Marshall (1889-1965), journalist, was a volunteer ambulance driver in the French Army in 1916, and a Liberty Bond Drive speaker in the U.S. Army from 1917 to 1918. From 1919 to 1941 he was the managing editor and editor of the Cedar Rapids Gazette. He served as organizer and chairman of the No Foreign War Committee from 1940 to 1941, and from 1953 to 1957, worked as a columnist for the Marion (Iowa) Sentinel.
